The Hôtel du Righi Vaudois was once one of the distinguished hotels on the shores of Lake Geneva. During its most celebrated years, its guests included F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose time on the Riviera helped inspire the setting of Tender Is the Night.

The building later entered a long period of decline and abandonment, creating a striking contrast between its faded grandeur and the landscape surrounding it.

This painting is drawn to that contrast. While the history of the hotel has changed dramatically, the view beyond it remains: Lake Geneva and the mountains retaining the same quiet presence that made this place remarkable.
